What Are Signs of Workplace Anxiety And How Can You Cope

When you face stress at work, it does not mean you dislike your job or feel like quitting. It just means that the tasks required of the job or the people you work with can bring you anxiety.

It is normal to experience stress once in a while from work. Long hours, large projects, busy traffic, and competing co-workers can make anyone stressed. The overwhelming stress that is preventing you from living your life is called workplace anxiety. If your workplace anxiety is not treated, this can cause you to make irrational decisions based on that anxiety. It can also begin to affect your life outside of work.

Here are the signs of workplace anxiety and methods of coping you can incorporate into your life.

Signs

Workplace anxiety can be similar to any other anxiety you have dealt with. This type of anxiety centers on the worries you experience based on your job. You could have the type of job where you feel the pressure to be perfect. Because you made a great accomplishment at one point, your boss may expect the same results every time, even though you cannot guarantee that.

You could also be feeling irritable when you come home from work because of the day you had. It feels like you can no longer fit your friends or family into your schedule anymore because of the never ending work tasks you have.

Workplace anxiety can also make it hard to fall asleep from the anxiety of what will come the next day. It can be a struggle to concentrate on anything else except for your workload.

Incorporate Healthy Habits

Workplace anxiety stripped away the healthy habits you used to have. It is not too late to bring those healthy habits back into your life.

If workplace anxiety has made it hard for you to sleep, set a timer every night for when it is time to go to bed. Eat a balanced diet of proteins, fruits, and vegetables for three meals. Fit in some exercise into your schedule even if it means taking a brisk walk for 15 minutes outside in the fresh air.

Be Honest With Yourself

In order to prove you are a team player, this may make you want to take too much on. But, you are only human and you do not want to wear yourself out.

If you know that you do not have enough time to take on so many tasks, do not be afraid to say no. Only handle what you have time for.

Self-Organize

Your workplace anxiety may come from too much clutter. You have a desk full of papers and documents you need to go through as well as a ton of unread emails. Anyone with a big mess like these can feel like tossing everything on the floor.

Whenever you have some time, try to free up space on your desk and your inbox. You can also categorize your work by what is high priority and what you can put to the side for later. Once that is done, you will feel like you can finally breathe.

Talk to Your Boss

You can also speak to your boss about finding ways to make things easier with your job to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Even if that means talking about stressful co-workers. Do not feel like this means you are admitting you cannot get the job done. Your boss wants you to succeed in any way you can even if it involves making some changes.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-11
